Building Blocks of understanding
The main design of the training at SapphireGemTech Training is that we deliberately use a building block approach. Think of building blocks in this context as concepts.
The idea is that we try and first build an understanding of, say a foundation “block”, and once that is firmly in place, we then go onto the next “block”.
Without an understanding of the current “block” it is not possible to gain an understanding of the next “block”. And so it progresses, one block built on top of another.
IBM Manuals
SapphireGemTech Training Mainframe Programming Language courses are intended to teach you the, to different levels, the basic design, concepts, structure and operation of a particular language.
The most important documentation on any language will always be from the creators. In our case, this will be from IBM. We therefore deliberately make reference to IBM manuals for this reason and also, as importantly, to familiarize you with the relevant IBM documentation.
This last point could not be more important. Long after this course is a distant memory to you, mostly forgotten, our intention is that you have the relevant understanding of the language and – most importantly – that you remember where to look for further information in the relevant IBM manuals.
Focus getting clearer and clearer
At SapphireGemTech Training we do NOT make you read the manual from beginning to the end because this is the surest way of boring you and of losing your interest.
Instead, what we try and do is to selectively concentrate on certain topics, skipping from one to another while all the time gradually increasing the complexity of our focus.
Think of it as a picture, to begin with, out of focus but all the time gradually getting clearer and clearer until it is in sharp focus, crystal clear.
Want-to-write program
Another thing we do at SapphireGemTech Training is to encourage the student to think of a program that she or he would like to write, a want-to-write program. After all, if you not really interested in writing a program, you are not really going to want to learn a language in which to write the program. So, with this training, we want you to want to write your particular program and we will teach you how to.
Obviously you should be realistic in your want-to-write program – clearly we are not going to be able to write some huge system.
